2016 has been a great year for the mobile phone with a number of new models released to compete with the industry leaders from Apple and Samsung. Trying to narrow down a small list of the best phones on the market is difficult, but at IAPS Phones, we are all about helping you, the consumer find the right phone to not only fit your needs, but perhaps more importantly, your pocket.
So we have compiled a small list, which if we are honest, will probably change by the end of the year as there are still plenty of releases set to come.
Sony Xperia Z5 Compact
Sony continues to release some excellent phones and the Xperia Z5 Compact is certainly no different. The name says it all in fact, as this phone has an compact, elegant design. Running Android Marshmallow, the 127 x 65 x 8.9 mm Xperia Z5 Compact features a 4.6-inch screen offering 720 x 1280 resolution and weighs in at around 138g.
It runs on a Snapdragon 810 CPU, has 2GB of onboard RAM and 32GB of storage while a 2700mAH battery should keep you running for most of the day. Finally, it boasts a 23-megapixel rear camera and a 5.1-megapixel front camera
- Very compact
- Incredible camera
- It only has a 720-pixel screen
- Cannot be charged wirelessly.
Boasting a very simple and user-friendly interface, the Nexus 6P has become very popular throughout the year. It really has a very decent display which you will notice straight away. The Nexus P runs Android Marshmallow and comes in at 159.3 x 77.8 x 7.3 mm which although not as compact as the Xperia Z5 is still easy to handle. It features a 5.7-inch screen which offers 2560 x 1440 resolution and weighs in at 178g.
The Nexus P uses a Snapdragon 810 CPU and features a hefty 3GB of RAM while storage includes 16/32/64GB options, more than enough for your games, movies, and music. Finally, it has a 12.3-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front camera.
- Some incredible specs for its price point
- Speakers that face the front
- Cannot be charged wirelessly.
Apple iPhone 6s
Without a doubt, Apple make incredible smartphones and the iPhone 6s is certainly no different! Running IOS 9.3, this iPhone comes in at around 138.3 x 67.1 x 7.1 mm and weighs a bulky 143g. It features a 4.7-inch screen that offers 1334 x 750 resolution, an Apple A9 processor, 2GB of RAM and has a range of storage options including 16/64/128GB. The battery is 1715mAH (it could do with a more powerful one) while the two cameras are a 12-megapixel rear facing and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Although still essentially the same look as the iPhone 6 from 2014, there are a number of important upgrades under the hood.
- Incredible new 3D touch system
- Apple functionality
- Poor battery
- Low-res screen
LG are certainly back! The G5 is a unique idea with the ability to attach various accessories to the phone, depending how you want to boost it. These modules include audio boost as well as a module to improve the battery life of the handset, which at 2800mAH isn’t too bad to begin with and certainly better than the iPhone 6s.
The LG runs on Android Marshmallow, weighs a hefty 159g and has dimensions of 149.4 x 73.9 x 7.7 mm. Its resolution is excellent at 2560 x 1440 and it boasts 4GB of RAM (double that of the iPhone 6s) and 32GB of storage space. The camera is one of the plus points on the G5. Not only does it feature a 16-megapixel rear camera and also a 8-megapixel front camera. The rear facing camera can be set to take pictures from a wider angle.
- Wide angle camera
- Lots of storage space and RAM
- Ability to add modules
- Not the greatest design
