DEADLINE EXTENDED TO THE 15TH MAY!!!!
As you know the IAPS22 Conference will be held in Glasgow, UK, between 24th –29 June this year. As part of the event, Gary Gumpert, Aleya Abdel-Hadi and David Uzzell are organising our 4th Photographic Exhibition. This is now a reminder of the call to all members of IAPS who are attending the conference to submit photographs for this show (up to a maximum of four per participant).
Constructed Memories
The theme of the photographic exhibition is ‘Constructed Memories’. What memories are triggered by a ‘loosely’ constructed environment? Do the streets, buildings and structures that surround and confront us (in all shapes and sizes) speak about the past or forecast the future? How aware are we and how important are these ‘messages’ from the past that we pass by during our everyday lives? What is the effect of a ‘designed’ place in constructing and structuring our memories? What is the role of memory in place identity and place attachment? When places are destroyed and spaces changed, how do they affect the collective memories of groups and the personal memories of individuals? How can places destroy memories and lead to collective forgetting?
Constructed Memories deals with these triggers of the mind and the need we have for these memories.
Constructed Memories are not only the collected images that describe our personal, social or psychological reactions to an exterior world, but the collective memories held by all of us. Your aim is to capture images that you believe will speak to us, answering the questions above. We also hope that the show will be unexpected, interesting and a lot of fun.
