A workshop on Construction Therapy will be held on Monday June 25th at 3:30 pm. This meeting aims to initiate a project that will develop the ideas of construction and building as a therapeutic participation process for communities of people affected by Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD). The meeting will bring together many of the initially interested partners discussing their ideas in a PechaKucha format. Meaning that each person will have short amount of time to present a large amount of information at a rapid pace. All presenters will be available for a question and answer discussion following the presentations.
The PechaKucha talks will focus on the potential of Construction Therapy from both a psychological and architectural perspective. The project will launch in the coming academic year as a vertically integrated project and will be based in ongoing attempts to merge research in participative construction and PTSD treatment.
A selected group of University of Strathclyde students and staff with different backgrounds (Engineering, Architecture and Urban Design, Business, Manufacturing, Counselling) will work alongside the community members actively constructing facilities identified by the community itself, which may span from school playgrounds to community gardens to actual buildings or service infrastructures.
The process of local engagement will be shaped entirely throughout an integrated collaboration between the counselling and the construction components of the team in order to work out a process of community-based direct construction that also functions as a process of treatment of the participants’ individual conditions of post-trauma disorders.
As a project in development we are always on the lookout for interested collaborators and contributions to the concepts behind Construction Therapy.
